Who We Are

Our Vision

Lucas Literacy Lab is a Christian, communications-focused micro-school for students ages 6-13. Our elementary-aged room is Charlotte Mason-inspired, following the child's lead and encouraging exploration with literacy at the center. Our middle school-aged room blends literacy and innovation through group projects in our custom-designed writer's room, podcasting and vlogging studio, and intentionally curated on-site library.  We are a home away from home for Old Bridge home educators.

Our Founder
Amanda Lucas

Amanda Lucas is the founder of Lucas Literacy Lab and the proud mother of two daughters and one boxer puppy. Amanda has been a teacher in charter and private schools across NYC since 2015. She has taught grades pre-k through 8th grade utilizing a child-led, hands-on, project-based approach. Her BA is in English Language Arts from Hunter College, and she attended Columbia University’s Masters program in Elementary Inclusive Education. Before becoming a teacher, Amanda was a writer and Editorial Assistant at Parents and American Baby magazines. She has also self-published a picture book about her daughters entitled I Need an Idea. When Amanda could not find a school that honored the magic and power of literacy, she set out to create it. Amanda is a lover of quirks, strong coffee, and good books. Lucas Literacy Lab is the bibliophile's haven she wished for as a child, and she can not wait to share it with you.

Isaiah 11:2

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him - a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord.
